Box Score SALEM, VA (November 22, 2019)- The VSU Trojan volleyball team rounded out their season during the 2019 CIAA Championship Semifinals, after falling to the Bears of Shaw University, 3-0 (25-23, 25-14, 25-22).
The Trojans finished with a 16-11 overall record, 12-3 in the conference, while the Bears advance to the championship finals with a 17-9 overall record.
Entering the opening set with high energy, VSU took an early 10-5 lead. Shaw would rally back to tie the game 15-all and eventually take the lead. The Trojans worked to reclaim the lead, but fell short with a score of 25-23.
VSU had a tough run in set two as they trailed due to numerous errors. Gaining most of their points off of Shaw errors, the Trojans managed to stay in the game, but it was not enough as they fell, 25-14, in set two.
Set three mimicked the first as the Trojans took an early lead. Shaw tied the game 19-all off of a VSU error. The battle for the lead commenced, as the set went play for play for play. The Trojans were unable to finish the game, falling 25-22 in set three.
Jailyn Ivey controlled the court with 9 kills and 8 digs, while Bria Anderson tallied 13 assists. Deja Lester jumped in with 4 blocks over the Bears.
The Trojans look to improve their game for next season in order to advance to the championship game.
