ETTRICK, VA (November 18, 2019)- The VSU Trojan volleyball team, under the leadership of 3rd year head coach Amanda Walker, as set to host the 2019 CIAA Championship Quarterfinals for the second consecutive year. The first serve of the quarterfinals is set for 6pm on November 19 at the VSU Multipurpose Center.
After officially claiming the CIAA Northern Division title on November 14 with a 3-0 sweep against the Vikings of Elizabeth City State University, the Trojans will face the CIAA no.4 southern team, the Golden Bulls of Johnson C. Smith University.
History is repeating itself, as the Trojans host the Golden Bulls in the CIAA Quarterfinals as they did during the 2018 Championship.
VSU will be entering the contest with a 15-11 overall record, 12-3 in the conference, while JCSU currently 9-11 on the season, 8-9 in the conference.
CIAA Offensive Player of the Year, Jailyn Ivey, leads the Trojans in kills (271), digs (223) and aces (33). VSU's Bria Anderson has control of the team's assists (474) after competing in 76 sets.
Johnson C. Smith is led by Taylor Smith with 162 kills on the season, Cydney Calhoun with 387 assists and Joi Haywood with 295 digs.
The Trojans are looking to punch their ticket to the 2019 CIAA Semifinal and Championship games in Salem, VA on November 22 and 24.
