ETTRICK, VA (October 5, 2019)-The VSU Trojan football team improved their CIAA season record after leaving the Shaw University Bears scoreless in a 35-0 matchup.
THE BASICS

FIRST HALF
Both teams remained scoreless in the first quarter as the battle to dominate the field began. VSU's persistence paid off after 14 plays for 82 yards when quarterback Cordelral Cook connected with tight end Maurice Davis for an 11 yard touchdown pass to give VSU the 7-0 lead. With the momentum increased, the Trojans took advantage of their next possession with a 2 yard touchdown by Darius Hagans to extend the score 14-0 going into halftime.
SECOND HALF
Although the third quarter breezed by, it did not go unnoticed that Cook ran in an 18 yard touchdown to give the Trojans a 21-0 edge over the Bears.
With minutes remaining in the fourth quarter, Maurice Davis was in the right place at the right time, once again, to grasp a 6 yard pass from quarterback Jordan Davis for VSU touchdown. As the game neared its final seconds, the Trojans had an additional play to make, this time sending Donovan Goode to the endzone on a 14 yard run.
Despite the game only lasting 2 hours and 43 minutes, the Trojans 35-0 score proved they dominated the field from start to finish.
LEADERS
Offensively, Cook was 12-for-23 in pass completions for 129 yards and single touchdown. Hagans rushed for 89 net yards on 23 attempts for a single touchdown, while Townsend covered 75 yards on 5 receptions. Defensively, junior linebacker William Lulu led the charge for VSU with 10 total tackles, 7 solo and 3 assisted, and a 1.5 tackles for a loss of 5 yards.
UP NEXT
The Trojans will travel to Elizabeth City, NC on October 12, to take on the Vikings of Elizabeth City State University. Kickoff is set for 1:30pm.
