ETTRICK, VA (October 2, 2019)- The Virginia State University Trojans football team will return to Rogers Stadium on October 5 to take on the Bears of Shaw University. Kick-off is set for 1pm.

The Trojans want show their appreciation to the youth of the community by marking this matchup the "Take a Kid to the Game Day." Youth 12 and under, who are accompanied by an adult, will be admitted into the game for free.

The Trojans are coming off of a 31-15 win over the Johnson C. Smith University Golden Bulls, moving VSU to a 3-1 season record. The Bears are currently 2-2 on the season after securing a 49-10 victory over Edward Waters.

After beginning the series in 1902, the 39-8-5 series record rules in favor of VSU.

Leading the Trojans offensively is junior running back Demetrius Strickland, with an overall 60 carries for 334 yards, averaging 5.5 yards per carry, and 3 touchdowns. Senior quarterback Cordelral Cook has completed 44-of-81 passes for 520 yards and 3 touchdowns for VSU. For the Bears, running back Sidney Gibbs has tallied 58 carries for 339 yards, averaging 5.8 yards per carry and 3 touchdowns. Shaw's quarterback Torrin Campbell has completed 66-of-110 passes for 960 yards and 12 touchdowns.

On the special teams side, junior kicker Nicholas Woolfolk leads the charge for VSU securing 2-of-3 field goals with a long of 42 yards. He has gained 689 yards and 4 touchbacks on 12 kickoffs. For the Bears, Beni Kinsemi made 2-of-5 field goals with the longest being 33 yards in addition to 16 punts for 551 yards.

Defensively, junior linebacker William Lulu leads the Trojans with 21 total tackles on the season (16 solo, 5 assisted), while Shaw's Jaleel Scroggins has collected 30 total tackles (19 solo, 11 assisted).
