SALISBURY, N.C.  -- No. 6 Virginia State University men's basketball team cruised to an 87-63 win at Livingstone College Saturday night at New Trent Gym. The Trojans (12-3, 4-0 CIAA) extended their winning streak to eight games with the victory. 

Virginia State University senior Cyonte Melvin led the way for the Trojans with 16 points. Jahmere Howze added 11 points and eight rebounds. Howze shot perfectly from the free throw line going six-for-six. Melvin ended the contest shooting two-of-eight from the floor. 
 
KEY STATS
- VSU shot 41.4 percent from the field; Livingstone College shot 41.2 percent
- Virginia hit 11 triples (44 percent); Livingstone knocked down four threes on 25 percent shooting
- The Trojans were 23-for-29 at the free throw line while the Blue Bears were 25-for-34
- VSU held a 37-36 rebounding advantage; the Blue Bears had 16 turnovers to VSU's 15

KEY TROJANS

- Cyonte Melvin had 16 points and four assists 
-  Melvin was perfect from the free throw line going nine-for-nine
- Jahmere Howze  added 11 points and eight boards
- Philip Owens contributed 11 points 
- Owens was three-for-three from the field, three-for-three from three-point range and two-for-two from the free throw line
- Armond Griebe contributed 10 points and five rebounds


KEY BLUE BEARS 

- Roger Ray was four-for-11 from the field, two-for-six from three-point range and 16-for-17 from the free throw line 
- Ray led the way for the Blue Bears contributing 26 points 
- Lydell Elmore had nine on four-of-10 shooting
- Malik Smith contributed six points on three-of-seven shooting from the free throw line 

UP NEXT: The Virginia State men's basketball team will travel to Charlotte, North Carolina to face the Golden Bulls to Johnson C. Smith University. That game will take place Monday, January 14^that 7:30 p.m.
