Box Score 2 MURFREESBORO, NC- The Virginia State University baseball team yielded a split decision to the Hawks of Chowan University (CU) yesterday afternoon in doubleheader action.

Game 1: Virginia State 5, Chowan 4
The opening game of the day saw Virginia State jump out to a 2-0 lead with two runs on two hits in the top of the first. The Hawks then added one run in the bottom of the first to cut VSU's lead 2-1.
The Trojans added another run at the top of the fourth with Julian White singling to center field to bring Sewer across home plate. VSU grew its lead, 3-1.
The Trojans then pushed the lead back to two, 4-2, as an error in the sixth inning plated the run. VSU's Sisqo Scott homered to lead off the ninth inning to take the extra-innings victory.Â
Virginia State was led by Jahleel Sewer who went 3-for-4 with adding three runs. Jamar Hinton earned the win with pitching three innings.
Game 2: Virginia State 4, Chowan 10
Virginia State got on the board early with adding two runs in the first two inning to take a 2-0 lead. The Haws of Chowan answered with adding nine runs in the bottom of the third inning.

The Trojans then tacked on two runs in the top of the fifth to trim the deficit to 9-4 as a walk, two wild pitches, and an error led to the VSU runs. CU answered with adding one run in the bottom of the fifth inning to secure the 10-4 victory. Both team remained scoreless in the final two innings of the contest. Virginia State University ended the contest with six hits.
VSU will host the Builders of Apprentice School on April 13 with the first pitch slated for 1 pm. The contest will be played at Whaley Colbert Field on the campus of Virginia State University.
