Trojans Yield Split Decision to Winston-Salem State University

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 ETTRICK, Va. (April 28, 2018) - The Virginia State University baseball team yielded a split decision to the Rams of Winston-Salem State University in doubleheader action this afternoon in its season finale.

Game 1: Virginia State 4, Winston-Salem State 5
The opening game of the day saw the visiting Rams jump out to a 2-0 lead with two runs on one hit in the first inning of play. Both team remained scoreless in the next two innings. The Trojans then added one run in the bottom of the fourth inning to make the score 2-1. Virginia State then added three runs in the fourth inning to take a 4-2 lead. The Rams added its final three runs of the content in the top of the seventh inning to take the 5-4 victory. Virginia State was led by Jahleel Sewer who went 2-for-3 and recorded one RBI. Virginia State finished the contest with six hits to the Rams five.

 
Game 2: Virginia State 4, Winston-Salem State 2
Virginia State got on the board early with two runs at the bottom of the first. The Rams then added two runs in the top of the fourth inning to tie the game at two all. The Trojans then added one run in the bottom of the fourth to take a 3-2 lead. Virginia State's next time at bat added one run in the bottom of fifth to grow its lead, 4-2. Both teams remained scoreless the rest of the contest with the Trojans securing a 4-2 victory. Virginia State finished the contest with six hits while the Rams collected four.

VSU (25-15-1) will next begin preparation for the 2019 season.
