Box Score 2 ETTRICK, Va. - The Virginia State University baseball team yielded a split decision to the Falcons of St. Augustine's University (SAU) this afternoon in doubleheader action.

Game 1: Virginia State 3, St. Augustine's 7
The opening game of the day saw St. Augustine's jump out to a 3-0 lead with three runs on three hits in the top of the first. The Trojans added its first run in the bottom of the second with
Jamar Hinton doubling to bring White across home plate cutting SAU's lead, 3-1. VSU then added another run in the bottom of the third with
Justin Nase hitting a homerun to bring the score 3-2.
SAU then grew its lead back 6-2, as two errors in the fourth inning plated the run. VSU added its final run in the sixth inning. The Falcons answered with adding its final run in the seventh inning to secure the 7-3 victory. Amilcar Yanez earned the win with pitching five innings.
Game 2: Virginia State 9, St. Augustine's 1
Virginia State got on the board early with adding three runs in the first inning to take a 3-0 lead. The Trojans then tacked on another run in the bottom of the fourth to grow its lead 4-0. SAU answered with adding one run in the top of the fifth inning to cut VSU's lead 4-1. Virginia State then added five runs to secure the 9-1 victory. Virginia State University ended the contest with 10 hits.
VSU will return to action tomorrow as they close out the weekend series against St. Augustine's with first pitch slated for 12 pm. The contest will be played at Whaley Colbert Field on the campus of Virginia State University.
