Baseball Set to Host the Builders of Apprentice School

ETTRICK, Va. (April 11, 2018) – The Virginia State University baseball team (16-12-1) will host the Builders of Apprentice School (25-8) on Friday, April 13 at Whaley Colbert Field for a single game contest. First pitch is slated for 1 p.m.

Virginia State traveled to Hampton,Va for a doubleheader contest against the Apprentice School on April 6 where the Trojans fell to the Builders.

Game 1: Apprentice School 10, Virginia State 2
The opening game of the day saw host Apprentice School jump out to a 4-0 lead with six runs on four hits after two innings of play. The Builders then added two runs in the bottom of the fourth to increase its lead to six. The Trojans got on the board at the top of the fifth when Aaron Harris singled to center field to bring Keyon Smith across home plate. VSU cut Appentice's lead, 6-1.

Virginia State added its final run in the sixth inning to cut the lead 6-2. The Builders then added four runs in the bottom of the sixth inning. The Trojans could not get any closer as the Builders held on for the win.

Virginia State was led by Aaron Harris who went 3-for-4 and recorded one RBI. Luke Schanba earned the win with a pitching five innings.
 
Game 2: Virginia State 1, Apprentice School 3
Virginia State got on the board early with a single run at the top of the first. The Builders then added two runs in the bottom of the third to take a 2-1 lead. The Trojans remained scoreless in the remainder of the contest as the Apprentice School added its final run of the contest in the bottom of the fourth to secure the 3-1 victory.
 
All home games are played at Whaley Colbert Field on the campus of Virginia State University.
