Baseball Fell to Chowan University in Doubleheader Action

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 ETTRICK, Va. (April 10, 2018)  - The Virginia State University baseball team fell to the Hawks of Chowan University (CU) this afternoon in doubleheader action at home.

Game 1: Chowan 6, Virginia State 4
The opening game of the day saw the visiting Hawks of Chowan University jump out to a 1-0 lead with one run on two hits after one inning of play. CU then added another run in the top of the third inning to take a 2-0 advantage. The Trojans added one run in the bottom of the third to cut the lead, 2-1. The Hawks got two runs in the top of the six to grow their lead 4-1. The Trojans answered with adding a single in the bottom of the sixth when Julian White tripled to center field to bring Jahleel Sewer across home plate. VSU cut Chowan's lead, 4-2.

The Hawks then added its final two runs in the top of the seventh inning while VSU added its final two runs in the seventh inning to cut the lead 6-4. The Trojans could not get any closer as the Hawks held on for the win.

Virginia State was led by Aaron Harris who went 2-for-4 and recorded two RBIs. Josh Vincent earned the win with pitching six innings.
 
Game 2: Virginia State 2, Chowan 9
Chowan got on the board early with two runs at the top of the first. The Trojans then added one run in the bottom of the first to cut the lead, 2-1.  CU then added six runs in the second inning to advance its lead 8-1. The Trojans added its final run of the contest in the bottom of the fifth inning. The Trojans remained scoreless for the remainder of the contest as the Hawks added its final run of the contest in the top of the sixth to secure the 9-2 victory.

VSU will next host the Builders of Apprentice School on April 13 with the first pitch slated for 1 pm. All home games are played at Whaley Colbert Field on the campus of Virginia State University.
