Box Score HAMPTON, Va. – Sophomore Sisqo Scott blasted a grand slam in the sixth inning of Virginia State's 11-9 victory over Stratford University on Monday night at Jefferson Davis Middle School.

The Cardinals jumped out to an early 6-0 lead with adding runs in the bottom of the first. VSU added its first run of the contest in the top of the fourth inning with Jahleel Sewer coming across home plate. The Trojans continued to add runs collecting five in the fifth inning. Jamar Hinton singled to right field recording three RBIs, bringing Aaron Harris, Julian White and Jahleel Sewer home to tie the game six all.
The Cardinals answered with a run of their own in the bottom of the fifth when Gabriel Gonzalez, singled to right field scoring Cintron to take a 7-6 lead. VSU answered with Sisqo Scotts' grand slam happened in the top of the sixth inning to bring Nase and Henderson home, securing 9-7 lead. The Trojans would then control the lead the remainder of the contest. Closing out the inning Jamar Hinton singled to third base, scoring Julian White, collecting a 10-7 lead. Virginia State added its final run in the ninth inning to secure a 11-9 victory.
Senior Jamar Hinton came in to shut the door for VSU, allowing only three hits, two walks and three strikeouts to close out the game in the 3.2 innings pitched.
Stratford starter Ricardo Leon had a rough outing and was the losing pitcher after giving up all six of VSU's runs in just 4.2 innings pitched.
Next, the Trojans will travel to Bluefield, West Virginia to face Bluefield State College in a weekend series on March 24-25. First pitch is slated for 1 p.m.
