ETTRICK, Va. – Virginia State (7-3-1) split a doubleheader with Shepherd University (3-6) in baseball action at home on Sunday February 25. The Rams gained a 10-6 win in game one, while Virginia State earned the split with an 8-3 win in the nightcap.

The Rams took a 4-0 lead in the third inning in game two. The Trojans rallied with six runs on six hits in the bottom of the frame. A two-run single by Sisqo Scott keyed the rally. The Rams then added a pair of runs in the fifth to take a 9-6 advantage. Shepherd added its final run in the ninth inning to secure the 10-6 victory.  

Sisqo Scott went 3-for-4 and drove in three runs to lead Virginia State in the nightcap. Jahleel Sewer added a two-run homer in the third inning to take a 4-0 advantage. The Trojans kept the hot hitting going with adding four more runs in the bottom of the fourth inning. Shepherd added its final run in the fifth inning but fell short 8-3. Gerald Taylor (1-1) (4.1 IP, 5 H, 3 ER, 2 K, 0 BB) gained the win for the Trojans.

Virginia State return to action on March 3 when they host the University of Virginia at Wise for a 1 p.m. doubleheader.
