Box Score ELIZABETH CITY, N.C. (February 17, 2018) – The Virginia State University (VSU) Women's Basketball team defeated the Lady Vikings of Elizabeth City State University (ECSU) 69-58 at the R.L. Vaughan Center this afternoon.

Alexis Smith led the Trojans with 23 points, four rebounds, four assists and five steals.
Chrisanna Green was VSU's second leading scorer finishing with 21 points, nine rebounds, three assists and three steals.
Mia Fitts chipped in with nine points, while
Dionna Marcus and
Endia McKinney finished with six points each.
Elizabeth City State University's leading scorers were Alexis Fowler and Deva Stell with 13 points each.
HOW IT HAPPENED
First Quarter:
Virginia State started the contest with a 3-0 lead.
Alexis Smith secured the opening basket for the Trojans at the 8:21 mark. The Lady Vikings answered with adding five points to take a 5-4 lead. VSU then pushed ahead to take an 11-8 by adding a layup by
Chrisanna Green at the 2:40 mark. With 00:12 left in the quarter, a three pointer by
Mia Fitts made the score 16-10 in favor of the Trojans to end the quarter.
Second Quarter:
Chrisanna Green secured the first baskets growing the Trojans lead 21-10. A three pointer by Tamara Harvey helped the Lady Vikings cut the lead 25-24.
Alexis Smith knocked down a layup to keep adding points to the board edging VSU's lead, 29-27. VSU's
Alexis Smith secured a basket with 00:03 in the half to take a 36-29 lead into the locker room.
Third Quarter:
ECSU started the quarter by adding a basket to cut VSU's lead 36-31.
Alexis Smith added a layup to grow the lead 44-36 with 6:09 left. VSU added five points in the remaining minutes to give the Trojans the advantage heading into the final stanza.
Fourth Quarter:
Makayla Sutton scored the opening basket with ECSU taking the lead 50-49. VSU then answered with a layup by
Chrisanna Green at the 7:47 mark to tie the game 52 all. A three pointer by
Mia Fitts at the 6:55 mark edged the Trojans 55-52. With 3:44 left in the final quarter, a three pointer by
Keyana Brown made the score 64-52 in favor of the Trojans. The Trojans then added five points in the remaining minutes to give them a 69-58 victory.

VSU will travel to Bowie, MD to face the Lady Bulldogs of Bowie State University on February 21 at the A.C. Jordan Arena. Tip-off is slated for 5:30 p.m.
