Box Score ORANGEBURG, S.C. (February 11, 2018) -The Virginia State University's baseball team secured a 14-13 victory over Claflin University to close out their weekend series on February 11. With the victory VSU moves to a 4-1-1 overall record.
Virginia State was led by
Jahleel Sewer with three hits, a home run and 4RBIs. VSU added five runs in the 2
nd inning. Nase singled to left field, bringing home
Keyon Smith. A single to center field earned Scott an RBI, with Nase crossing home plate.
Jahleel Sewer added his second homerun of the season earning him 2 RBIs, with White crossing home plate. A double by
Aaron Harris earned him an RBI, with White coming across home plate. Claflin answered back in the bottom of the 2
nd inning with five runs to tie the contest. The Trojans then secured four runs in the top of the 3
rd inning, taking a 9-7 advantage over the Panthers of Claflin University. A double by
Julian White earned him an RBI, with Sewer adding a run. At the end the 5
th inning, the score was 10-7; in favor of the Trojans.
VSU then added on run in the 6
th inning, when Sewer singled recording an RBI, scoring Nase. The Trojans then added three more runs in the top of the 8
th inning, taking a 14-7 advantage over the Panthers. Claflin started a comeback in the bottom of the eighth inning as the Panthers placed three runs on the scoreboard, cutting the Trojans lead to 14-10. In the final inning, the Panthers added three runs, but to no avail the Trojans secured a 14-13 victory.
Virginia State will return to action on Wednesday, February 14 as they host Stratford University at Whaley Colbert Field. First pitch is slated for 1 p.m.
