ETTRICK, Va. (Dec. 13, 2018)– The Virginia State University men's basketball team secured its first conference victory over St. Augustine's University 69-54 tonight at the VSU Multipurpose Center.
Virginia State University seniors
Cyonte Melvin and Jahmere Howze led the way for the Trojans with 13 points and three rebounds each.
Brandon Holley added 11 points and two rebounds. VSU improves to 6-3 on the year (1-0 CIAA), while the Falcons fall to 2-7 overall (0-3 CIAA).
KEY STATS
- VSU shot 42.9 percent from the field; St. Augustine's shot 40 percent
- Virginia hit five triples (23.8 percent); St. Augustine's knocked down four threes on 21.1 percent shooting
- The Trojans were 16-for-23 at the free throw line while the Falcons were 10-for-11
- VSU held a 29-27 rebounding advantage; the Falcons had 10 turnovers to VSU's seven
