Trojans Oust Virginia University of Lynchburg, 105-61

Box Score ETTRICK, Va. (November 24, 2018)– The Virginia State University women's basketball team season high 105-61 victory over the Dragons of Virginia University of Lynchburg this afternoon at the VSU Multipurpose Center. Junior guard Yazmen Hannah led the way for the Trojans collecting 17 points and three rebounds.  
 
Virginia University of Lynchburg (VUL) opened the contest with a slight 4-0 lead to open the contest.  Virginia State then answered with securing a 27-11 lead after one quarter and the Trojans outscored the Dragons in the second, 23-13, as Virginia State took a 50-24 lead into the half. Virginia State extended the margin to 50-34 after three periods and rolled to a 71-54 victory to earn its third win of the season.

Hannah scored 17 points in 27 minutes of play. The Hickory, North Carolina native was 7-of-8 from the line and finished with three rebounds, four assists and three steals. Aja Robertson recorded 17 points, two rebounds, three assists and two steals. Followed by freshman Shayln Washington who scored a game-high 12 points. 
 
Fedeja Ransom Vargas led VUL in double figures scoring contributing 19 total points and six rebounds. 

How It Happened
Virginia State trailed in the contest when VUL opening the game with a 4-0 lead before VSU answered with a 27-11 lead to close out the first quarter. The Trojans would build the lead to 23 point-in the second quarter, but the Dragons continued to rally to make it 50-24 to close out the first half.
 
Chrisanna Green and Aja Robertson  scored the opening baskets to start the third quarter advanced Virginia State lead to 54-24, but VUL never gave up adding points to cut VSU's lead 75-48 with adding one from the free throw line to close out the third quarter.
 
Virginia State opened the fourth quarter making 4-of-8 free throws, Jeane Robinson secured a  three-pointer to close out the contest. VUL scored four points in the first five minutes of the fourth quarter. Virginia State continued to put up points over the remaining minutes to close out the game giving the Trojans the 105-61 victory. VUL added its last basket of the contest with 00:31 seconds left when Jayda Holder collected a three-pointer to round out the VULs coring. 
 
Inside the Numbers
> Virginia  State was 35-of-75 (46.7 percent) shooting and 24-of-39 (61.5 percent) from the charity stripe
> Virginia University of Lynchburg shot 46.3 percent (25-of-54) from the floor and 53.3 percent (8-of-15) from the free-throw line
> VSU registered 40 rebounds, while VUL recorded 35 rebounds
> Virginia State finished with 12 points in the paint, 11 points off VUL turnovers and seven second-chance points
> VUL tallied 10 points in the paint, two points off VSU turnovers and two second-chance points
