Green Shine In Virginia State Victory Over the University of Puerto Rico-Bayamon

ETTRICK, Va. (November 16, 2018) – Senior Chrisanna Green led the way for the Trojans securing her third double-double of the season with season 18  points and 11 rebounds to help lift the Virginia  State University women's basketball team to its third victory over Paine 88-71, tonight at the Shaw University tournament.
 
The University of Puerto Rico-Bayamon opened the contest outscoring Virginia State 18-16 after one quarter and the Trojans outscored the Cowboys in the second, 22-5, as Virginia State took a 38-23 lead into the half. Virginia State extended the margin to 50-34 after three periods and rolled to a 71-54 victory to earn its third win of the season.

Green scored 18 points in 37 minutes of play. The Jamestown, New York native was 6-of-15 from the line and finished with 11 rebounds, three assists, two blocks and one steal. Yazmen Hannah recorded 16 points, seven rebounds, one assist and eight steals.
 
Anellisse Vargas led the UPRB in double figures with contributing 13 total points and nine rebounds. 

How It Happened
Virginia State trailed in the contest when UPRB opening the game with a 18-16 lead over VSU to close out the first quarter. The Trojans gained the lead and would build the lead to 15 point-in the second quarter, but the Cowboys continued to rally to make it 38-23 to close out the first half.
 
Aja Robertson basket in the paint started the third quarter advanced Virginia State lead to 40-23, but UPRB never gave up adding points to cut VSU's lead 58-34 with just 00:18 seconds to play in the period on Vargas collecting a layup to close out the third quarter.
 
Virginia State opened the fourth quarter making 7-of-11 free throws, the last two by Aja Robertson to close out the contest. UPRB scored seven points in the first five minutes of the fourth quarter. Virginia State continued to put up points over the remaining minutes to close out the game giving the Trojans the 71-54 victory. UPRB added its last basket of the contest with 00:06 seconds left when Kiaraliz Rios collecting a basket to round out the UPRB scoring. Aja Robertson added two from the free throw line to close out the scoring for the Trojans.
 
Inside the Numbers
> Virginia  State was 22-of-59 (37.3 percent) shooting and 22-of-34 (64.7 percent) from the charity stripe
> University of Puerto Rico-Bayamon shot 31.3 percent (20-of-64) from the floor and 66.7 percent (10-of-15) from the free-throw line
> VSU registered 44 rebounds, while UPRB recorded 47 rebounds
> Virginia State finished with 28 points in the paint, 16 points off UPRB turnovers and nine second-chance points
> UPRB tallied 26 points in the paint, eight points off VSU turnovers and 11 second-chance points
