Box Score ETTRICK, Va. (January 24, 2018) – The Virginia State University (VSU) Women's Basketball team defeated the Lady Vikings of Elizabeth City State University (ECSU) 44-41 at the VSU Multipurpose Center tonight.

Alexis Smith led the Trojans with 26 points, four assists and six steals. Chrisanna Green continued to clean up the glass with another five points and nine rebounds.
Dionna Marcus chipped in with six points. Mia Fitts finished with five points.
HOW IT HAPPENED
First Quarter:
ECSU started the contest with a 4-0 lead. Alexis Smith secured the opening basket for the Trojans at the 8:02 mark to cut the Lady Vikings lead to 4-2. VSU pushed the lead to 9-6 nailing two free throws. With 2:35 left in the quarter, a layup by Chrisanna Green made the score 11-6 in favor of the Trojans. A layup by Dionna Marcus helped edge the Trojans to 13-7 to end the quarter.
Second Quarter:
Alexis Smith secured the first basket growing the Trojans lead 16-7. A three pointer by Tamara Harvey helped the Lady Vikings cut the lead 16-12. Alexis Smith knocked down a layup to keep adding points to the board edging VSU's lead 18-12. The Trojans took a 18-16 lead into the locker room.
Third Quarter:
ECSU started the quarter by adding a three pointer to tie the game 18 all. Keyana Brown added two points from the free throw line to tie the game 20 all. VSU added 12 points in the remaining minutes to give the Trojans the advantage heading into the final stanza.
Fourth Quarter:
The game was tied once in the quarter as Anaya Stell added a layup for ECSU. VSU then netted a basket to hand the lead back to the Trojans. The Trojans then added four of its eight points from the free throw line to give the Trojans a 44-41 victory.

VSU will host the Lady Bulldogs of Bowie State University on January 27 at the VSU Multipurpose Center. Tip-off is slated for 1 p.m.
