Box Score 2 SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. – The Virginia State University volleyball team dropped a 0-2 decision today (Friday, September 8) on Day 1 of the Shepherd Showdown. The Trojans opened the day with a 0-3 loss to the Bald Eagles of Lock Haven University, before falling to the Battlers of Alderson Broaddus in the final contest of the day.
The 0-2 record today moves the Trojans to 0-6 overall on the season. VSU will wrap up the weekend at Shepherd tomorrow (Saturday, September 9).
In today's opener, Virginia State yielded a 0-3 (25-15, 25-23 & 25-13) decision to Lock Haven University.
In VSU's second match of the day, The Trojans looked to turn thing around by battling things out with Alderson Broaddus. Down 0-1, the Trojans tried to rally back in the second ending the set 25-22. In the end, Alderson Broaddus came out on top winning 3-0 (25-15, 25-22, & 25-19). As a team, Virginia State knocked down 29 total kills and wrapped up the match with a .076 hitting percentage.
During the match against the Alderson Broaddus Battlers, Myja Jones (Chesapeake, VA) led VSU with 8 kills. Freshman Jailyn Ivey (Bowie, Maryland) added seven kills, Miranda Bass (Gainesville, Florida) dished out 21 assists and Jasmine Jones (Richmond, TX) recorded 13 digs.
Tomorrow, VSU will take on Ursuline (12:30 p.m.) and host Shepherd University (8:00 p.m.).
