In game one both teams had impressive work offensively and defensively with a tug-a-war in the first six innings of the game. Both teams remained scoreless in the first six innings. Impressive pitching by both junior
Jamar Hinton (Dinwiddie, VA) and Rolando Alvarez ended the game with recording 6 strikeouts each. VSU answered in the seventh inning with sophomore
Adarius Moody (Richmond, VA) single up the middle, recording a RBI, which scored Hinton to secure the 1-0 victory. The Trojans outhit the Lions with recording a total of six hits. On the mound for VSU was junior
Jamar Hinton who allowed three hits, zero runs, two walks, and six strikeouts.
In game two the Lions took a 3-0 lead in the bottom of the second inning. VSU answered in the top of the third inning with senior
Jahleel Sewer (Hampton, VA) scoring on a wild pitch. Senior
Colton Gunn (Dinwiddie, VA) then doubled to right field, recording 2 RBIs, scoring Hinton and Markins to tie the game. Senior
Julian White (Yorktown, VA) doubled to right center, recording an RBI, brining Gunn across the plate to give VSU a 4-3 edge over the Lions. VSU continued to rally with adding five more runs in the remaining innings of the game to secure the 9-8 victory. The Trojans ended the game with a total of 11 hits while the Lions recorded 12. Gerald Taylor (Dinwiddie, VA) who allowed nine hits, six runs, zero walks, and two strikeouts in the five inning pitched. Closing things out for the Trojans was sophomore
Jordan Claytor (Dinwiddie, VA) allowing three hits, two runs, three walk, and three strikeouts in the remaining three innings of the competition.
With the victories, the Trojans improve to (18-23, 5-9 CIAA) as they prepare for the 2017 CIAA Baseball Championships on May 4-6 on the campus of Virginia State.
