Trojans Baseball Hosts Mercy College This Weekend

ETTRICK, VA - The Virginia State University baseball team will host the Mavericks of Mercy College in a three-game series beginning on Friday, March 10th and concluding on Sunday, March 12th. The series will take place at Whaley Colbert Field.

Scouting the Trojans
The Trojans enter this weekend after snapping a six-game winning streak after falling 7-4 against the Cavaliers of University Virginia at Wise in the final game of last weekend series. Leading the Trojans is senior catcher David Markins who was selected as Offensive Player of the Week after his performance in last weekend's series. During the three games, Markins led VSU with a .545 batting average with 6 hits, 2 homeruns, and 5 RBI's.  He currently leads the Trojans with a .528 batting average, 5 homeruns, 23 RBI's, and 49 total bases. On the mound for the Trojans is Gerald Taylor who has pitched a team high 29.1 innings, striking out six batters and holds a 3-0 record in games pitched.
 
 
Scouting the Mavericks
Powered by two RBI from senior Nick Arcabascio and sophomore Anthony Murphy and a win from graduate student James Patterson, the Mercy College baseball team enters this weekend's series after a split a doubleheader against University of the Sciences at Dutchess Stadium on Wednesday afternoon. The Mavericks took game one 6-3 before falling 6-4 in the nightcap.  Sophomore Joseph Sadallah led the Mavericks at the plate as he recorded three hits, two runs scored, and one RBI as the Mavericks took game one in the doubleheader. Leading the Mavericks overall at the plate is senior Randal Mendez who has a team high six RBI, three doubles, and one home run. On the mound, graduate student James Patterson has pitched a team high 12.2 innings and has one win for the Mavericks.
