Baseball Travel for a Four Game Series This Weekend

VSU Baseball will travel for a four game conference match-up against the Rams

ETTRICK, VA – The Virginia State University baseball team will travel to take on Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) rival Winston-Salem State University in a four-game doubleheader action beginning Saturday with first pitch slated for 3pm. On Sunday first pitch is scheduled for 1pm.

As a team, the Trojans average .335 at the plate, including a .402 on base percentage and .491 slugging percentage. VSU has scored 171 runs and 18 home runs in 25 games this year. The Trojans are continuing to prepare for the 2017 CIAA Baseball Championships on May 4-6th on the campus of Virginia State. Virginia State currently stands fourth within the division with a 12-13 record overall and 1-3 conference record.

Offensively, senior David Markins (Colonial Heights, VA) has a team-best .471 batting average. Markins has recorded 48 hits, 11 doubles, 40 RBI's, and eight home runs. Senior Colton Gunn (Dinwiddie, VA) has recorded 39 hits, eight doubles, 24 RBI's, and four home runs this season.

VSU enters the weekend after losing both doubleheader games to Chowan, (6-4, 6-0) this past weekend at home.

As for its opponent, Winston-Salem State University (16-12, 6-0 CIAA) currently stands in first place within the division. The Rams enters the weekend after the #17 Catawba Indians shut down the Rams, 2-0, on Tuesday at BB&T Ballpark. Willie McCrae led the Rams going 2 for 3, while Ivan Acuna went 1 for 3. Randy Norris and Emilio Abreu was 1 for 4 on the night. All games will be played at Finch Field which is located at 7003 Ball Park Rd, Thomasville, NC 27360.
