Box Score Mont Olive, N.C.- The Virginia State University baseball team dropped a 13-4 decision to University of Mount Olive, which is ranked, fifth in the nation this afternoon.

VSU moves to 11-10 overall as they prepare for the 2017 CIAA Baseball Championships on May 4-6 on the campus of Virginia State.

The Trojans of the University of Mount Olive grasped the lead with adding 4 runs at the bottom of the third inning. VSU gained momentum at the top of the fourth inning. Leading off the Trojans,
Jahleel Sewer secured a homerun to right field, recording three RBIs, which scored Taylor and Scott.

UMO then took control of the game, with a score of 11-4 at the end of 6 innings. The home team added 2 additional runs at the bottom of the 7
th inning, securing a 13-4 victory.

Starting off on the mound for VSU was junior
Gerald Taylor who allowed nine hits, one homerun, sevens runs, one walk, and three strikeouts in the five innings pitched. Freshman Delmarcus Talley contributed by pitching one inning for VSU allowing one hit, four runs, four walks, and two strikeouts. Closing things on the mound was sophomore
Sisqo Scott who pitched two innings, who recorded one strikeout, two walks, two runs, and three hits.Â

VSU will open conference play at home as they host Chowan University on March 25-26
th in doubleheader action with first pitch slated for 1pm at Whaley Colbert Field.
