Baseball Falls to Mercy in Game 2 of Weekend Series

Box Score ETTRICK, VA- The VSU Trojans baseball team fell to the Mercy College Mavericks, 15-3, during game 2 of the weekend series. Braving through the cold, windy weather; senior Jahleel Sewer, and senior Tashaun Taylor put the Trojans on the board.
 
The Mavericks grasped the lead with adding 4 runs at the top of the fourth inning. After two scoreless innings, VSU gained momentum at the bottom of the third. Leading off the Trojans, Colton Gunn secured a single to left field, recording an RBI, which advanced Markins to third and scoring Sewer.
 
Mercy took control of the game, with a score of 9-2 at the end of 6 innings. As the visiting team gained an additional 3 runs at the top of the 7th inning, Gunn answered back with a single to left field bringing Taylor across home plate, recording his second RBI.
 
Mercy added its final points in the final two inning, securing the 15-3 victory. Offensively, VSU was led by junior Gerald Taylor who struck out four batters faced. Freshman Delmarcus Talley contributed one strikeout.
 
VSU will return to the field on Sunday, March 12 for the final game of the weekend series against the Mercy Mavericks. The first pitch of the single game is slated for 12pm at Whaley Colbert Field.
