Box Score ETTRICK, VA (November 9, 2017)- The Virginia State University Trojan volleyball team closed out their 2017 regular season play with a three set sweep (25-7, 25-22, 25-11) against the Vikings of Elizabeth City State University.
Junior Hailey Heyward controlled the match with 10 total kills, while junior Tiara Ramey collected 9 kills and 3 service aces. Senior Miranda Bass also contributed 17 assists for VSU.
The Trojans had a strong start to the matchup, holding the Vikings to only 7 points in set one. Grasping 11 consecutive points, VSU held a 15-3 lead over ECSU. Despite the Vikings collecting four additional points, the Trojans reached their 25th point with ease, rounding out set one with final score of 25-7.
Attempting to rally back, ECSU went point for point with VSU. Although the set tied six times, the Trojans kept their rhythm and took set two with a final score of 25-22.
VSU clinched set three by breezing by ECSU with a 25-11 set score.
The victory moves the Trojans 10-16 overall record, 10-5 in the CIAA. Setting their sights on the CIAA Championship on Nov. 17-19 at the VSU Multipurpose Center, the CIAA Northern Division No.2 seed VSU will be taking on the Broncos of Fayetteville State University on Nov. 17. The first serve so set for 5pm.
