Box Score ETTRICK, VA (November 6, 2017) - The Virginia State University volleyball team were overpowered by the Hawks of Chowan University in 3 sets (25-23, 25-20, 25-22) on Monday night for the Trojans Senior Day recognition.
Prior to the first serve, the Trojans honored two seniors who help make a tremendous difference to the volleyball team. Senior manager, Lisa Hudson, and senior setter and captain, Miranda Bass, took to the court with their teammate for one of their last home matches.
Alongside senior Miranda Bass who led the match with 32 assists, was junior Tiara Ramey with 12 kills.
In set one, both team went point for point attempting to hold the lead. The Trojans held a two point advantage over the Hawks for the first half of the set. Consecutive Trojan errors moved the set one in favor of Chowan, 25-23.
Despite trailing early in set two, cheers from the crowd gave the Trojans the momentum to rally back six consecutive points to close the scoring gap. VSU continued to fight, but was not able to take set two. Â The final score of set two was 25-20.
Set three mimicked the match opener, as the teams went point for point to grasp the lead. The score tied 13 times until the set ruled in favor of Chowan.
The Trojans will be back in action for a 6pm conference match against Elizabeth City State University on November 9.
With the volleyball championship rapidly approaching the Trojans continue to work hard in preparation for championship play. The 2017 CIAA Volleyball Championship will take place on Nov. 17-19 at the VSU Multipurpose Center.
