Trojans Destroy Shocks, 74-38

Box Score ETTRICK, Va. (November 30, 2017) - The Virginia State University women's basketball team secured a 74-38 victory over the visiting Shocks of Washington Adventist University tonight. With the victory, the Trojans improve to a 6-0 overall record, while Washington Adventist moves to a 5-5 record.

Senior guard Alexis Smith (Lusby, Md.) led the way for the Trojans posting 17 points, nine total rebounds, eight assists and six steals.
 
Virginia State shot 41.4 percent from the field, 34.5 percent from behind the arc and had three players to score in double figures. Senior guard Mitts Fitts (Richmond, Va.) was VSU's second-leading scorer with 14 points and four total rebounds, while guard Dionna Marcus (Fort Stewart, Ga.) and Keyana Brown (Williamsburg, Va.) secured 13 and 10 points respectively. 

Smith set the tone early contributing seven points and fueling an 11-9 lead to start the game. Virginia State opened up a 16-9 lead to close out the first quarter, while tying the game once in the contest.
 
In the second stanza, Virginia State built their lead, 26-11, by the 6:00 mark, continuing to dominate on the court. The Trojans proceeded to add points to the board for the remainder of the half while tallying 14 points to take an extended advantage into the break, 40-13.
 
With 8:17 to go in the third, a 3-pointer by Endia McKinney put Virginia State up, 43-18. Washington Adventist netted seven points in the remaining minutes of the quarter, cutting Virginia State's lead to 49-25, heading into the final period.
 
The Trojans added 25 points in the final period to win the game, 74-35. VSU held the lead for majority of the contest.
 
Washington Adventist's leading scorer was Courtney Jenkins who finished the contest with 10 points, four total rebounds, and one assist.
 
Up Next: Virginia State will host Bluefield State College on Saturday, December 2. Tip-off is slated for 2 p.m.
