Ettrick, VA (November 18, 2017) - The VSU Trojan volleyball team put up a fight in their matchup against the Bears of Shaw University in the CIAA Championship semifinal contest. The Trojans fell short in 3 sets (25-22, 25-20, 25-19).

VSU was led by junior
Tiara Ramey with 10 kills while junior
Hailey Heyward and rookie
Jailyn Ivey each collected six kills.

The Trojans got a good start to set one after securing the first point off of a Bears error. Shaw would soon control of the set, but VSU kept the score close. Despite the Trojans grasping three back to back points, bringing the score to a close 23-22, the final points of the set ruled in favor of Shaw for a final set score of 25-22.

Battling back to begin set two, the Trojans had a 6-2 lead at the first timeout of the set. VSU continues to work the court play after play for a 10-7 lead after a Bears error. Shaw crept up to tie the set 11-11, take control of the lead and the set with a final score of 25-20.

Set three was played with a lot of heart, as the Trojans worked to keep the ball in play. After putting up a fight against the Shaw Bears, VSU fell in set three with a final score of 25-19.

VSU rounded out their season with an 11-17 overall score, 10-5 in the CIAA conference.

The 2017 CIAA Championship game will be played on Sunday, November 19 as Winston-Salem State and Shaw battle for the title. The first serve is set for 3pm at the VSU Multipurpose Center.
