Box Score MURFREESBORO, NC (October 5, 2017)- The Virginia State University volleyball team fell to the Hawks of Chowan in a 5 set road matchup (19-25, 26-24, 25-23, 17-25, 9-15) on Thursday night.
The Trojans were led by junior Hailey Heyward with 12 kills, while junior Miya Jones tallied 5 blocks. Senior Miranda Bass moves closer to her 2000th assist after grasping 30 assist over the Hawks.
VSU was not able to gain an early lead in set one, taking a 25-19 set loss.
The Trojans regained control in set two with a 26-24 win. Three consecutive errors by the Hawks gave VSU an early lead. Chowan attempted to rally back, tying the set six times, but fell short to the Trojans.
Although the Hawks took an early lead in set three, the Trojans regained control of the set to take the 25-23 win.
VSU could not maintain momentum in the final two sets with a 25-17 and 15-9 set four and five loss.
The Trojans will jump start VSU Homecoming 2017 on October 9 with a 6pm against the Lions of Lincoln University.
