Box Score ETTRICK, VA (October 12, 2017)- The Virginia State University volleyball team secured a 3-0 (25-11, 25-11, 25-21) over the Bulldogs of Bowie State University for the Trojans Think Pink game.
Junior Myia Jones and freshman Jailyn Ivey led the Trojans with seven kills each while sophomore Kennedi Cannon grasp six kills. Ivey took control of the court with five total aces.
Senior Miranda Bass reached a milestone in her collegiate career by securing her 2000th career assist.
The Trojans took charge of court in set one with a 16-8 lead at the first time out. With a consistent serve by freshman Jailyn Ivey, the Trojans were able to take an extensive lead over BSU to win set one 25-11.
Miranda Bass served 12 consecutive times to start set two, giving VSU an early 12-0 lead. Despite the Bulldogs working to add points to the board, the score mimicked set one, 25-11, in favor of VSU.
The first play of set three gave senior Miranda Bass her 2000th career assist. The Bulldogs kicked their game into high gear, rallying back to tie the game, 18 -18. With the scoring gap close, the Trojans worked to grasp and hold the lead. VSU took set three with a score of 25-21, taking the overall win.
The victory moves the Trojans to a 6-4 CIAA record, 6-13 overall.
VSU will face the Panthers of Virginia Union University on October 16 for a 6pm road game.
