Box Score ETTRICK, VA- The Virginia State University Trojans rounded out the 2017 CIAA Roundup with a three set sweep (25-19, 25-17, 25-13) over the St. Augustine's University Falcons.
The victory moves the Trojans to a 4-12 overall record, 4-2 in the conference.
Taking control of the match for the Trojans was junior Miya Jones with 8 kills, while junior Hailey Heyward and sophomore Kennedi Cannon each collected 7 kills. Senior Miranda Bass led the team with 3 aces and 12 assists alongside sophomore Jasmine Jones tallying 12 digs.
The Trojans held the Falcons under 20 points, beginning with set one with a 25-19 win. SAU had an early led but 5 consecutive points in favor of the Trojans gave VSU a 13-10 lead. The scoring gap remained close, but the Trojans were able to pull away after several Falcon errors.
VSU undoubtedly worked the court in set two and set three with a 25-17 and 25-13 victory to secure the match win.
On October 5, the Trojans will travel to Murfreesboro, NC to take on the Hawks of Chowan University. First serve is slated for 6pm.
