Box Score SALISBURY, NC- The Virginia State University women's basketball team fell to the Lady Blue Bear of Livingstone College on January 8 with a final score of 78-63.
The loss moves the Trojans to an 11-3 overall record, 3-1 in the conference.
Senior Nandi Taylor led the game with 23 points while senior Taylor Daniels grasped 10 points and 9 rebounds.
Making the first basket of the game, VSU stayed in close scoring range with the Lady Blue Bears at the beginning of the first quarter. Despite the Trojans securing necessary shots, LC managed to pull away to take the lead at the end the quarter.
VSU turned up the heat in the second quarter regaining control of the game. Senior Tierra Richberg and Nandi Taylor landed four consecutive shots to put the Trojans in the lead, 25-24, with 6:04 left in the half. Although the game remained close, VSU stayed consistent. With 0:37 left until halftime, the score was tied 32-32. The Trojans were able to set up the play, giving junior Mia Fitts the open 3-pointer to give VSU the 35-32 lead at halftime.
The Lady Blue Bears dominated the final two quarters of the game to take the win.
VSU ended the matchup shooting 40.7 percent (22-54) from the field, 32 percent (8-25) from behind the arc, and 57.9 percent (11-19) at the line, while LC ended the game shooting 40.7 percent (24-59) from the field, 40.9 percent (9-22) from behind the arc, and 75 percent (21-28) at the line.
The Trojans will take on the Lady Golden Bulls of Johnson C. Smith University on January 9. Tip-off is set for 5:30pm in Charlotte, NC.
