Box Score RICHMOND, Va.- The VSU volleyball team kicked off the second day of the VSU/VUU Tournament on September 4 on the campus of Virginia Union. The Trojans went up against the St. Augustine's Falcons for a tough battle and prevailed with a 3-1 victory.

Alexsys Pullen each tallied 12 kills. The Trojans currently hold a 3-0 overall record.
The Trojans had a very competitive set to open the matchup against the SAU Falcons. Several last minute errors by the Falcons gave VSU a chance to secure the 25-22 set win.
Set 2 started off strong for the Trojans as they led 7-2 at the first timeout. The Falcons attempted to rally back but fell behind after and assisted block by Carter and White to bring the score to 15-11. The Trojans continued to work the court with a score of 18-11 at the second timeout. Several errors by SAU gave VSU the 25-14 win for set 2.
The third set had a consistent flow as VSU worked to control the court. Errors from both combined with court coverage kept the set tied. The Falcons had a brief pull away with a score of 14-11, but the Trojans quickly regained momentum and the lead. The battle for the set win kept the crowd on the edge of their seats. Several errors and close calls gave the Falcons the 27-25 win.
A nail biting set 4 pushed the Trojans to play hard and capitalize off of the Falcons errors. The score gap remained close early in the set until the VSU pulled away with a 4 point lead. The Falcons rallied back but the Trojans covered the court to gain their needed points. As the score creeper closer to 25, both teams made small errors to lead to the final timeout of the set with VSU leading 23-21. The Trojans sealed the deal with a 25-22 set win to take the game victory.
The Trojans will travel to
Shippensburg, PA on September 9-10 to participate in the
Shippensburg University Tournament. VSU will take on UVA-Wise at 12::30pm on September 9 to being the event.
