Baseball Falls to WSSU in Day 1 Doubleheader

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 ETTRICK, Va.- The Virginia State University baseball team fell to the Winston-Salem State University Rams (2-1, 2-0) in a doubleheader on day 1 of their weekend matchups on April 2. This is the first home conference matchup for the Trojans this season.

A rainy start to the day, pushed the first pitch back 2 hours.

After 2 scoreless innings, VSU got on the board with a run by sophomore Rodney Shell (Dinwiddie, VA). A quick 4th inning, kept the Trojan in the lead, 1-0. The Rams advanced to second base on a single hit, ultimately bringing a runner home and tying the game 1-1. The 6th inning flew by without a run, while WSSU took the lead at the top of the 7th with a run. The Trojans were unable to answer back at the bottom of the 7th, taking a 2-1 loss.

VSU was scoreless in game 2 as the Rams collected a run in the 2nd and 4th inning.

The Trojans will meet the Rams for a doubleheader contest on April 3 for day 2 of their conference matchup. The first pitch is set for 1pm at Whaley Colbert Field.
