Box Score 2 MURFREESBORO, NC- The Virginia State University baseball team splits a pair of games with the Hawks of Chowan University on March 19 in the Trojans first CIAA conference matchup of the season.
In game 1, VSU thrashed the Hawks with a 6-0 win.

Leading the Trojans with 2 runs was rookie

Tashaun Taylor (Richmond, VA) and
Jamison Griffin (Newport News, VA) and juniors
David Markins (Colonial Heights, VA) and
Julian White (Yorktown, VA) each chipped in a single run.
With 2 outs on the board at the top of the 2
nd inning, the Trojans were able to bring two runners home. The top of the 3
rd inning was filled with several errors on the Hawks, allowing VSU a chance to steal bases. At the end of the 3
rd inning, the Trojans held a 5-0 lead. After a quick 3 outs at the top and bottom of the 4
th inning, VSU snagged another run at the top of the 5
th. Keeping the Hawks down, the Trojans took the 6-0 win.
VSU was unable to secure a win in game 2, falling short with a final score of 7-5.
White and Taylor each gave the Trojans 2 runs while sophomore
Devin Walker (Portsmouth, VA) ran in for a single.
The Hawks tallied 3 runs at the bottom of the 2
nd inning, but the Trojans answered back at the top of the 3
rd inning with 3 runs. Gaining an additional run in the 3
rd inning, the Hawks led the Trojans, 4-3.With no advancements in the 4
th and 5
th inning, Chowan had a repeat of the second inning, bringing in 3 runner at the bottom of the 6
th. VSU could only counteract with 2 runs at the top of the 7
th inning, ultimately giving them the 7-5 loss.
VSU will take the field against the Chowan Hawks on March 20 for a day 2 doubleheader matchup in Murfreesboro, NC. The first pitch is set for 1pm.
