Box Score ETTRICK, VA- The Virginia State University women's basketball team outlasted the Elizabeth City State Lady Vikings in a 61 - 55 overtime victory on February 8, 2016.

With the win, the Trojans improve to 10-12 overall, and 5-7 in the CIAA.

Junior guard
Nandi Taylor (Flint, MI) led the Trojans offensively recording 14 points. Senior forward
Wynterra Pittman (Graceville, FL) and junior guard
Joy Hickman (Newark, DE) each followed with 12 points. Junior forward Kasuela Cooper rounded out the double digit scoring for the Trojans recording 10 points. Sophomore forward
Stephanie Brown (Philadelphia, PA) fueled the Trojans defensive effort recording 10 rebounds.

The Trojans started the night out slow scoring only seven points in the opening
 quarter to the Lady Vikings fourteen.Â

ECSU led by as much as 11 with 3:58 remaining in the 1st half and held a 25 -18 lead over the Trojans at the conclusion of the first half.Â

Both teams were on a steady run as the game progressed.

Down by 11 points with 2:19 remaining in the game a layup by Taylor cuts the ECSU lead to single digits. The Trojans go on a 12 - 0 run to take a 52 - 49 lead over the Lady Vikings with 5 seconds remaining in regulation.Â

A 3 point shot by the Lady Vikings Imani Hedgins in the final seconds sent the game into overtime.

Both teams remained scoreless, until a layup by VSU's Hickman gave the Trojans a 2 point lead with 3:25 remaining in overtime. In the final minute of the game, a series of trips to the line secured the Trojans a 61 - 55 win over the Lady Vikings.Â

VSU ended the night shooting 27.9 percent (19-68) from the field, 18.8 percent (3-16) from behind the arc, and 76.9 percent (20-26) at the line. Â

The Trojans will be back in action on Wednesday, February 10 at 5:30 PM as they host Chowan University.
 The contest will also serve as VSU's Think Pink/ Sock it to the Hawks/ VA Lottery Game night.Â
The Virginia State Department of Athletics annual 1,000 cans, 1 goal campaign initiative is underway. The canned food items collected will be donated to the local food banks. The Department encourages all fans, alumni, faculty and friends to bring a canned food item to all of the home basketball games this season.
