Box Score 2 ETTRICK, VA.- The Virginia State University baseball team took a double header season opener loss to the Cavaliers of UVA-Wise on February 7.
In game one, the Trojans took a 9-6 loss. Securing runs for VSU were juniors
Tashaun Taylor,
Julian White and
David Markins, sophomore
Lamar Jones and rookies
Rodney Shell and
Aaron Harris.
Despite the cold and cloudy weather, the Trojans put up an 8 inning fight in game 2. White ran home at the bottom of the second inning, collecting the first point of the game. UVA-Wise clinched a homer at the top of the second inning, but Markins answered back at the bottom of the second with a home run for the Trojans. Senior
Jamison Griffin clinched a run at the bottom of the fourth, giving junior
Johnny Rowe an RBI. The Cavaliers would gain 2 runs in the 6
th and 8
th inning, giving them the lead. VSU would not be able to bounce back at the bottom of the 8
th inning, taking a 5-3 loss.
The Trojans will be back in action on Friday, February 19 to take on Le Moyne at 3pm at the Whaley Colbert Field.
