Box Score BOWIE, Md.- The Virginia State University women's basketball team fell to the Lady Bulldogs of Bowie State University on February 17 with a final score of 63-51.
The Trojans move to an 11-14 overall record, 6-9 in the conference.
VSU rounded out the night shooting 36.8 percent (18-49) from the field, 35.3 percent (6-17) from behind the arc and 52.9 percent (9-17) from the free throw line.
Senior
Wynterra Pittman (Graceville, FL) led the team with 17 points while junior
Nandi Taylor (Flint, MI) rounded out the double digit scoring with 14 points. Pittman also led the Trojans in recoveries with 7 rebounds.
The Trojans had a great start to the matchup, as Pittman secured the first basket of the game. Holding steady to the lead, VSU ended the 1
st quarter in the lead, 14-12. The Lady Bulldogs quickly gained speed in the 2
nd quarter closing the scoring gap and taking the lead. VSU trailed going into halftime, 33-25.
Despite the first basket of the second half by junior
Domonique Hagins (Washington, DC), the Trojans were unable to regain the lead in the final two quarters, taking a 63-51 loss.
The Trojans will take the court for their final game of the regular season on Saturday, February 20 against the Lady Lions of Lincoln University. This will also be the debut of the VSU Multipurpose Center. Tipoff is set for 2pm.
The Virginia State Department of Athletics annual 1,000 cans, 1 goal campaign initiative is underway. The canned food items collected will be donated to the local food banks. The Department encourages all fans, alumni, faculty and friends to bring a canned food item to all of the home basketball games this season.
