Box Score ELIZABETH CITY, NC.- The Virginia State University women's basketball team defeated the Lady Vikings of Elizabeth City State University on February 13 with a final score of 79-69.
The victory moves the Trojans to an 11-13 overall record, 6-8 in the conference. Elizabeth City State falls to a 7-16 overall record, 3-11 in the CIAA.
VSU rounded out the night shooting 54.5 percent (30-55) from the field, 25.0 percent (4-16) from behind the arc and 78.9 percent (15-19) from the free throw line.

Wynterra Pittman (Graceville, FL) secured a season single game high with 35 points. Junior
Kaseula Cooper (Charleston, MO) collected 14 points while junior
Nandi Taylor (Flint, MI) rounded out the double digit scoring with 11 points. Pittman and Cooper were evenly matched under the basket with 9 rebounds each.
The Trojan met the Lady Vikings for the second time this week as they each prepare for the upcoming CIAA Tournament on February 23-27.
Battling for the lead, both teams were evenly matched in the first quarter. A shot from behind the arc at the buzzer by ECSU, left the Trojans trailing, 24-21. VSU kept a steady lead in the second quarter, but the Lady Vikings had a first quarter repeat, landing a 3-pointer at the buzzer. The Trojans entered halftime trailing 39-38.
VSU took the court in the third quarter with vengeance, pulling away for an 11 point lead. The Trojans stayed consistent in the fourth quarter to take the 79-69 win.
The Trojans will travel to Bowie, MD on Wednesday, February 17 to take on the Lady Bulldogs of Bowie State University. Tipoff is set for 5:30pm.
The Virginia State Department of Athletics annual 1,000 cans, 1 goal campaign initiative is underway. The canned food items collected will be donated to the local food banks. The Department encourages all fans, alumni, faculty and friends to bring a canned food item to all of the home basketball games this season.
