Frazier Named CIAA Defensive Player of the Year

Charlotte, NC (November 8, 2016) – The Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA), with its Football Coaches Association and Sports Information Directors Association releases the 2016 All-CIAA First, Second, and Honorable Mention Football Teams.

Amir Hall (Bowie State), Bryant Frazier (Virginia State), and Will Johnson (Winston-Salem State) highlight the teams as the conference's most outstanding players. Hall earned the Offensive Player of the Year, Johnson secured the Special Teams Player of the Year honor, while VSU's very own Frazier was name the 2016 Defensive Player of the Year.

CIAA Defensive Player of the Year has been awarded to Bryant Frazier, senior defensive lineman at Virginia State University. Frazier leads the CIAA, with 13.5 sacks. He tallied 29 total tackles, including 22 solo tackles. The Glen Allen, Virginia native earned CIAA Defensive Lineman of the Week on two occasions this season.

Securing a place on the All-CIAA First Team are junior running back Trenton Cannon, senior defensive lineman Bryant Frazier, senior linebacker Geo Feggins and junior linebacker Brandon Lynch.  

Cannon currently leads the CIAA with 16 rushing touchdowns and is fourth in the conference with 113.3 rushing yards per game. Feggins holds the no. 4 spot in the CIAA with 8.4 tackles per game while Lynch in 4th in the conference with 5.5 sacks.

Representing the Trojans on the All-CIAA Second Team are senior offensive linemen Jahmil Haley and Terry Johnson, Jr. with a combined total of over 56 knockdowns this season.

The Trojan recently extended their season for a November 12 matchup against the Golden Tigers of Tuskegee University. Kickoff is set for 12pm in Tuskegee, Alabama.
