Box Score ETTRICK, VA - Virginia State University moved to a 5-1 overall record, 2-1 in the CIAA after a 44-38 win over the Vikings of Elizabeth City State University (2-4, 1-2 CIAA) on Friday, October 7 in Rogers Stadium. The victory extended the Trojans home winning streak to 3 games.
 
Both teams struggled offensively during the first quarter as they attempted to develop an offensive rhythm. VSU and ECSU alternated scores in the first and second quarter.
 
Heading into the half with the score knotted at 16-16, VSU's Coach Reggie Barlow and his staff made the adjustments to hold the Vikings scoreless in the third quarter, while putting up 21 points on the board.
 
Offensively, the Trojans proved they could counter the opposing defense. For two consecutive games, VSU has put up over 40 points against conference opponents.
 
Trojan quarterback, senior Tarian Ayers passed for 162 yards on 15 of 24 completions and 2 touchdowns, to lead VSU to a 44-38 victory over Elizabeth City State. VSU has gotten off to a good start in the competitive CIAA Northern Division.
 
Senior Kavon Bellamy continues to rule the gridiron, rushing for an impressive 153 yards on 23 attempts and 2 touchdowns. For the third game this season, Bellamy has rushed for over 100 yards and a total of 7 touchdowns.
 
Defensively, VSU's senior linebacker, Geo Feggins led the Trojan defense with 11 total tackles (6 solo) for the night, while senior defensive back Trevon Byron tallied eight tackles (7 solo). Feggins leads the team in tackles with 56. 
 
The Trojans defense allowed ECSU to close the scoring gap in the fourth quarter with 22 unanswered points to end the game.
VSU will go on the road next Saturday October 15 to face CIAA Divisional foe, the Bulldogs of Bowie State University. Game time is slated for 2 pm and will be televised on Aspire Network.
