Box Score ETTRICK, Va.- The VSU Trojan volleyball team recognized Breast Cancer Awareness Month on October 6 at their Dig Pink Game against the Hawks of Chowan University. The Trojans fell 3-1 to the Hawks at the team's first home event of the month.
Sophomore
Sydney Uko led VSU with 11 kills while teammates senior
Alexsys Pullen and sophomore
Tiara Ramey were not too far behind with 10 kills.
VSU accumulated numerous errors throughout the game to give the Hawks an edge on the court.
After a tied score of 5-5 in set 1, the Trojans fell behind and took a 25-15 loss to the Hawks. VSU redeemed themselves in set 2 with a 27-25 win. The Trojans were equally matched with the Hawks at the beginning of the set. Slightly pulling away, Chowan took an 18-12 lead. Aces, kills and errors lifted the Trojans to a 20-19 lead. Both teams toggled to be the front-runner, but an error on the Hawks and a final kill by Uko, earned the Trojans set 2.
The Trojans took a 25-17 set 3 loss and a 25-20 set 4 loss, giving the Hawks several error points and the game.
Pullen rounded out the night with 13 assists while senior
Adriana Hazou tallied 27 digs.
VSU currently holds a 10-6 overall record, 7-3 in the conference, as they prepare for their October 10 road matchup against the Lincoln University Lions. The first serve is set for 6pm.
