Box Score 2 MOUNT OLIVE, NC- The Virginia State University volleyball team split day one of their action-packed weekend on October 22. The Trojans took down tournament host, the Mount Olive Trojans, in a close 5 set matchup and fell short to Coker College.
The Trojans were led by senior
Alexsys Pullen and sophomore
Tiara Ramey with 8 kills each. Senior
Adriana Hazou tallied 25 digs while junior
Miranda Bass stepped in with 22 assists.
Taking the court with no hesitation, VSU secured set 1 with a 25-17 win. In the Trojans vs. Trojan battle, VSU came away with a 25-21 set 2 victory. Mount Olive rallied back in set 3 &4 with close 25-20 and 25-22 set wins. Battling in the deciding set, VSU came out victorious with a 15-11 set win for the overall 3-2 win.
In the Trojans second contest of the event against Coker College, VSU was led by Ramey with 10 kills. Hazou and Bass mimicked game one with a led in digs (19) and assists (22).
VSU was able to survive a competitive set 1, with a 27-25 victory. Coker dominated the remaining 3 sets (25-15, 25-18), although the Trojans worked hard to rally back in set 4 with a score of 26-28.
After the tournament, the Trojans currently hold a 14-7 overall record.
The Trojans will travel home on Sunday, October 23 to face the Lady Vikings of Elizabeth City State University at 2pm in the Multipurpose Center.
