Box Score LINCOLN, Pa.- The Virginia State University volleyball team brought home a win after taking down the Lincoln University Lions in 3 sets (25-20, 26-24, 25-19) on October 10.
The CIAA Northern Division matchup moves the Trojans to an 11-6 overall record, 8-3 in the conference, 1-1 in the Division.
Senior
Alexsys Pullen led VSU with 14 kills while sophomore
Myia Jones tallied 9 kills. Senior
Dierdre Carter followed close with 8 kills.
The Trojans jumped ahead with a quick 10-5 lead to start set 1. The Lions were able to close the scoring gap with Trojans errors and a sporadic kills to take a 20-18 lead over the Trojans. Back to back kills by Pullen gave the Trojans the extra edge to keep the Lions scoreless and take the 25-20 set win.
Both teams put up a strong fight in set 2 as they toggled for the lead. A nail biting 24-24 tied score gave the Trojans and the Lions equal chances. Pullen sprang into action with a kill, with the Lions gave VSU the set winning point with an error.
VSU worked to seal the win in the final set, holding the Lions to under 20 points. The set moved fast as the Lions handed over points and the Trojans delivered consecutive kills. VSU took the 25-19 set 3 victory to win the match.
Pullen rounded out the night with 16 assists as senior
Adriana Hazou dominated the court with 30 digs.
The Trojans will revisit their home court on October 13 to take on the Bulldogs of Bowie State. The first serve is set for 6pm.
