Box Score ETTRICK, Va.- The Virginia State University women's basketball team outlasted the Winston-Salem State University Lady Rams ,48-44, on January 7 for VSU's Faculty/Staff Appreciation Game.
The Trojans led by as many as 8 points in the fourth quarter to secure the victory. With the win the Trojans improve to a 6 - 6 overall record, 2 - 1 in the conference, to start off in 2016.
VSU shot 28 percent (14-50) from the field, 18.8 percent (3-16) from behind the arc, and 68 percent (17-25) at the free throw line.

Wynterra Pittman (Graceville, FL) led the Trojans in scoring recording 9 points. Pittman also led the Trojans defensively securing 9 rebounds.
VSU struggled to take control of the game in the first 2 quarters. After a jumper off of a fast break by junior
Domonique Hagins (Washington, DC) and 2 good free throws by Pittman, the Trojans would not see the lead until the final 2 quarters. The Trojans entered the locker room trailing with a halftime score of 23-22

James Hill, Jr. gave the Trojans the additional push needed to take the win. Junior
Joy Hickman gave VSU a strong start to the second half of the game with a 3 pointer at the beginning of the third quarter. The Trojans would never look back, taking the 48-44 victory.
VSU will be back in action on Saturday, January 9, 2016 as they take on Livingstone College in Daniel Gymnasium at 1pm for their Take A Kid to the Game Day.Â
The Virginia State Department of Athletics annual 1,000 cans, 1 goal campaign initiative is underway. The canned food items collected will be donated to the local food banks. The Department encourages all fans, alumni, faculty and friends to bring a canned food item to all of the home basketball games this season.
