Box Score LINCOLN, Pa.- The Virginia State University women's basketball team took a 53-51 loss to the Lady Lions of Lincoln University on January 30 in their CIAA Northern Division match up.
The fall moves the Trojans to a 9-10 overall record, 4-5 in the conference and 1-3 in the CIAA Northern Division.
VSU rounded out the night shooting 36.4 percent (20-55) from the field, 29.4 percent (5-17) from behind the arc and 85.7 percent (6-7) from the free throw line.
Senior CIAA Preseason pick 
Wynterra Pittman (Graceville, FL) controlled the game for the Trojans collecting 15 points while junior 
Nandi Taylor (Mt. Morris, MI) rounded out the double-digit scoring with 11 points.
Nandi Taylor secured the first basket of the game with a shot from behind the arc. Lincoln sunk a 3-pointer at the 8 minute mark, putting both teams on an even playing field. VSU was able to pull away in the first quarter with 2 back-to-back 3-pointers by Taylor and junior 
Donae' Moguel (Los Angeles, CA). The score at the end of the first quarter was 17-13.
The Trojans held the lead for most of the second quarter, until the Lady Lions bounced back with less than a minute left in the half. A final second layup by sophomore 
Stephanie Brown (Philadelphia, PA), gave VSU a 29-28 lead into halftime.
Despite the Trojans trailing for majority of the third quarter, the team worked together to stay equally matched with the Lady Lions. With less than 30 seconds left in the third quarter, 
Wynterra Pittman landed a jumper to give VSU a 44-42 lead.
Pittman carried the energy over to start the fourth quarter with a 3-point shot. After several missed baskets and turnovers by both teams, the score was tied 51-51 with 2:37 left in the game. Seconds later, Lincoln made a basket bringing the score to 53-51, VSU trailing. The Trojans were unable to bounce back, taking the 53-51 loss.
VSU will be taking the court on Wednesday, February 3 in Raleigh, NC to face the Lady Bears of Shaw University. Tip-off is set for 5:30 p.m.

The Virginia State Department of Athletics annual 1,000 cans, 1 goal campaign initiative is underway. The canned food items collected will be donated to the local food banks. The Department encourages all fans, alumni, faculty and friends to bring a canned food item to all of the home basketball games this season.
