Box Score MURFREESBORO, NC- The VSU Trojans women's basketball team was unsuccessful in the January 20 matchup against the Chowan University Lady Hawks. The final score of the night was 71-64.
The fall moves the Trojans to a 8-9 overall record, 3-4 in the conference while the Lady Hawks advance to a 13-5 overall record, 7-1 in the CIAA.
VSU rounded out the game shooting 39.1 percent (25-64) from the field, 25.0 percent (3-12) from behind the arc and 68.8 percent (11-16) from the free throw line.
Sophomore 
Stephanie Brown (Philadelphia, PA) led the game in scoring with 22 points. Junior 
Joy Hickman (Wilmington, DE) chipped in 11 points for the Trojans, while junior 
Donae' Moguel (Los Angeles, CA) rounded out the double-digit scoring with 10 points. Brown and Moguel were equally matched in recoveries with 9 rebounds each.
VSU had a slow run chipping away at the score to take the lead. The Trojans attempt fell short as the Lady Hawks took the 71-64 win.
The Trojans will return home to Daniel Gymnasium to take on the Lady Vikings of Elizabeth City State University on January 23 for Military Appreciation Day. Tip-off is set for 2pm.
The Virginia State Department of Athletics annual 1,000 cans, 1 goal campaign initiative is underway. The canned food items collected will be donated to the local food banks. The Department encourages all fans, alumni, faculty and friends to bring a canned food item to all of the home basketball games this season.
