Box Score 2 ETTRICK, VA- The Virginia State University Trojan volleyball team took a double loss on day 2 of the Nova Southeastern Tournament on Sept. 4-5.
The first game of the day was against Embry Riddle, where the Trojans fell short in a 3 set sweep (16-25, 22-25, 14-25). VSU came close to securing the second set with a tied score of 22-22 after 2 consecutive scored points. Junior
Adriana Hazou tallied 16 digs for the Trojans, while Sumerr Paxton of Embry Riddle led the game with 17 digs. Junior
Alexsys Pullen collected 7 kills while junior
Diamond Simpson came in with 9 assists.
The Trojans went on the play the tournament host, Nova Southeastern for the second game of the day. VSU secured 1 of the four sets played. Nova kept them down in the first 2 sets with a score of 12-25 and 11-25. The Trojans found strength in the third set to stand strong and maintain the set's lead. Nova attempted to rally back with 3 consecutive points, bring the score to 24-23, but a final kill by senior
Brookie Dargan secured the set. The fourth set mimicked the first and second set, as the Trojans lost 13-25. The final game score was 1-3.
Hazou led the team with 12 digs, while Dargan followed through with 10 kills. Sophomore
Miranda Bass collected 18 assists in the matchup.
At the conclusion of the tournament, rookie
Sydney Uko was named to the 2015 NSU Sharks Volleyball Invitational All-tournament team.
The Trojan Volleyball team will return home to host their VSU Tournament on Sept. 11-12 in Daniel Gymnasium.
