Box Score 3 ETTRICK, Va.- The Virginia State University Volleyball team successfully hosted their 1st Annual VSU Volleyball Tournament on Sept. 11-12 in Daniel Gymnasium. The Trojans played host to Glenville State College, Edinboro University, University of Charleston, Winston-Salem State University and West Virginia State University for the tournament.
The Trojans rounded up the tournament with a 2-1 record, bringing them to a current overall record of 2-5.
On day 1, the Trojans had a single court set up as they took on West Virginia State, Yellow Jackets. Starting the tournament off with a great match, VSU was victorious with a final score of 3-2 (25-24, 25-27, 23-25, 25-23, 15-13). Rookie
Sydney Uko led match with 19 kills, while junior
Adriana Hazou tallied 20 digs along with Cassie Ford of the Yellow Jackets.
The Trojans moved to a 2 court setup for day 2. Playing the first game of the day on court 2, the Trojans had a 3 set sweep against Glenville State (25-12, 25-16, 25,17). Uko led the Trojans in with 6 kills while senior
Brookie Dargan collected 5 kill and Hazou led the team with 6 digs as well.
The Trojans took on the University of Charleston for the last match of the tournament. VSU fell short with a final score of 0-3 (25-23,25-15,25-18). Uko took the lead again for the Trojans with 8 kills while junior
Grand Roberson and Hazou tallied 4 digs.
After several great matches, the Trojans are prepared to begin conference play on Sept. 19-20 at the CIAA Roundup in Raleigh, NC.
