Box Score 2 ETTRICK, Va.- The Trojan baseball team took a double loss in their day 2 matchup against the Chowan University Hawks on March 22 with a score of 7-6 and 10-3.
VSU currently have a 14-8 overall record, 1-3 in the conference.
Senior
Nicholas Christopher led the Trojans in game 1 with 2 runs while senior Zachary Jordan takes the loss after pitching 7 innings.
Game 1 was a crowd pleaser for the both Trojan and Hawk fans. At the bottom of the first inning, the Trojans made the first 2 points of the game with a run by Christopher and junior
Tashaun Taylor. The Hawks rallied back at the top of the second and third inning bring the score to 3-2, with the Trojans trailing. Junior
Jamison Griffin changed the game with a homerun and bringing in teammate senior
Tyler Coleman. The Hawks would gain 3 runs followed by the Trojans with a score on a wild pitch by Christopher and a run by Jordan. VSU was not able to regroup after Chowan earned a homerun. Â The Trojans fell short in game 1 with a score of 7-6.
The first 4 innings were fast moving as each team capitalized on play opportunities. At the bottom of the 4
th inning, the score was tied at 1-1. The Hawks had a boost of energy in the 5
th inning with 6 runs while Jordan gave VSU 1 run. The score at the bottom of the 5
th inning was 7-2. After zeroes across the board in the 6
th inning, senior
Darryl Williams took over for Christopher on the mound during the top of the 7
th inning. The Hawks tallied their second homerun of the day, securing 3 runs in the top of the 7
th inning. Christopher gave the Trojans a run off of a wild pitch in the bottom of the 7
th inning. VSU lost game 2 with a final score of 10-3.
The Trojans will be back in action in Winston-Salem, NC on March 28 -29 to take on the Rams of Winston-Salem State University. The first pitch is slated for 1 p.m.
